About the Urban Sofa

Contrary to popular belief the Urban Sofa Beat Collective were not manufactured by some cynical radio Svengali but came together naturally after spending years honing their 'talking about anything' skills individually on the pub conversation circuit.

The Collective was the brainchild of Simon Talbot, who envisioned it as a multi-fabric creative resource for Suffolk's thriving bohemian community. Despite winning the coveted Stephen Hendry Prize in 2002 Simon’s attempt to have the show recognized as a piece of art was met with scorn and derision.

Fuelled by hate, Simon set out to find the biggest pair of lowbrow Philistines in the region and turn the show into a platform for random idiocy.

He succeeded.

Mathew Marvell, dressed only in a pair of Speedos and a Balaclava helmet was wrestled to the ground by a 'have a go hero' when he tried to buy a packet of cigarettes and was punched repeatedly in the head and face.

Waking up in a studio and put straight to work, this new line up found that like the Sugababes, they gelled almost immediately.

No one knows why it works or indeed how or if in fact it works at all. It's doubtful their answers will make much sense though.
